Soulful is a gospel choir, with an R’n’B flavour for young people, who love singing.

Church member Angela Baxi started the group in 2001 whilst teaching at various secondary schools in Coventry. Hearing them sing for 30 minutes each week in lessons didn’t seem enough, especially when small groups were singing so beautifully in harmony.
After asking God what He had in mind, Angela brought all the young people together and formed a choir which has grown over the years with young people from around Coventry. The choir now consists of 35 members aged 11 – 25 and Angela has recently formed an additional choir called Soulful babies, aged 2-9years – cute! The members have become a strong family who love singing and rapping together.
The best thing about it is that God made it and for most of the members, they didn’t know Him before, but now they know who gave them their gifts and love singing to God!
Soulful now have a band, led by musical director Mark Russell and they perform at gigs and events all over Coventry and cities outside the area.
They sing for weddings, funerals, parties, services, concerts and Carnivals.
They were recently privileged to support Beverly Knight at the Ricoh Arena .
Soulful were the leading choir for the Coventry Mystery Plays as part of the Belgrade Theatre, singing music composed by Ilona Sekacz, a BAFTA winning composer.
Soulful also won the Choir of the Year competition held at the transport Museum in 2006.
Soulful are part of ROOTZ - the Black Arts Forum in Coventry run by Frontline AV and have worked with established directors e.g. Kwame (Casualty renown), Sylvester from Eastenders and Michael from Doctors.
The choir rehearses at the Church on Saturdays and Tuesdays; the band rehearse on Thursday nights also at QRBC.
