5th July 2020

A subject has been drawn to our attention that some might choose to react to. We have decided the best way to inform you of the issue is to give you a link to the website of CARE. If you do not know the organisation they say "Our mission is to bring a uniquely Christian insight to the policies and laws that affect our lives. We believe in a better story for our society and culture, one where the life of every human being, from conception to natural end, is respected and upheld".

The issue at the moment is "The UK Government's Domestic Abuse Bill will help address the scourge of domestic abuse in all its forms. But pro-abortion campaigners have said they will try to use the Bill to radically change the law on abortion in England and wales and make it even more permissive."

Important announcement  - Returning to worship in the Chapel

Our aim is to enable the best worship experience possible for all our fellowship (both those who might be willing to come to the chapel and those who were either uncomfortable with this idea at present or who are unable to come), while strictly complying with all the safety regulations.

We have listened to input from members and, taking that into account with an assessment of the far-reaching practical implications of the safety regulations, the Diaconate has agreed that gathering together for worship in our chapel will not take place in July or August, and may be considered for September at the very earliest.   We will monitor the situation on a continual basis and formally review it again in August, after which a further update will be published.  In the meantime, on-line services will continue.

Thank you for your responses to the Deacons request for your views on how and when we should re-open the church building for worship. All the responses were before the Deacons when they met last night to consider the way forward. Obviously there are no precedents to learn from so having so many views was really helpful. Also before them were the extensive Government Guidelines on re-opening places of worship although these were only published yesterday. (These can be seen here if you would like to see for yourself). Further information about the way forward for QRBC will be published on this website when it is available.

We made a mistake in eNews (the emails sent out to members and others who want it). Talking about Chris Headon's book of photographs taken in lockdown, we said that if their was sufficient demand she would produce another book. What we should have said was that Chris wants to know if there are those who want a copy of the first book  as she needs 25 people to commit to buying a book before a reprint is viable. If you would like a copy please let us know by email.

29th June 2020

24th June 2020

Yesterday the Prime Minister announced that places of worship can hold services from 4th July. What he actually said was:-

"Mr Speaker, I know that many have mourned the closure of places of worship, and this year, Easter, Passover and Eid all occurred during the lockdown. So I am delighted that places of worship will be able to reopen for prayer and services – including weddings with a maximum of 30 people, all subject to social distancing."

Previously some guidance had been published about re-opening (here) but this now has an update pending. Many of the physical steps necessary to make the premises compliant have already been done (e.g. marking a one way system, installing hand sanitisers) but decisions about a re-opening date will be taken when the guidance is updated, albeit re-opening to a rather different sort of experience to the one we left behind in March. Meanwhile our online services will, of course, continue and we will keep you informed of developments.

The series on Matthew's Gospel that we have had in Word for the Day has reached the Last Supper. We have some change to cope with too. Read Word for the Day here.

On Sunday it is Fathers Day. We shall be having a special service to mark the day led by our "Who Let The Dads Out" tea, We hope you will join us at 10.30am on Sunday either on Facebook live or our Youtube ChannelThe team say "Whilst we know many of you will be celebrating Fathers' Day in some way, we are also aware that not everyone has positive experiences of Fatherhood. Maybe your own relationship with your father was not good, or your Father is no longer around. We know that for some Father’s Day (just as Mothering Sunday can be for some) is a painful and difficult day - and that may be particularly true this year. However, at Who Let the Dads Out? we believe that it is important for us to celebrate the positive role that strong father figures have in all our lives, whether those father figures are Dads, Grandads, Uncles, step-dads, or just friends. And of course, we want to celebrate the role of our heavenly Father God in our lives. We hope that, in that context you will be happy to join us in that celebration."

From Saturday 30th May old (insecure) versions of Zoom software will no longer work so we will need to be up to date. If Zoom offers you an update please accept it. If you want to be sure you are fully up to date you can go here and download the latest version - the top download on the page. You then will have to click zoominstaller.exe - probably bottom left of the screen if you have Windows 10.

If you are using a mobile phone you will need the sixth download button on the page.

Recent research from Tearfund has shown that since lockdown started, the numbers of people engaging with church has increased, with 1 in 4 (24%) UK adults saying they have watched or listened to a service online. Clearly there is a big demand for online church at the moment, so its great that QRBC has engaged with this.

In particular thanks to all those who have now subscribed to the Youtube channel - we now have 101 subscribers, which will help other people find our services and other content - the more subscribers and regular viewers we have the higher up Youtube search rankings we will come.

The increased number of subscriptions also means we can have a meaningful address for our content - you can find all our previous services, plus a number of other video items we have created here:- www.youtube.com/queensroadbaptistchurchcoventry. Please do share this with friends or family who may be looking for an online church experience in this time, and please let us know how we can improve our online offering!

This is the first of three significant announcements this week. Now available on this website are a series of Bedtime Blessings put together by Sarah White.  Sarah says "Particularly at the moment as many of us are struggling to sleep, adults and children - I felt that it might benefit children to stop before bed and spend some time with God.  I plan to write enough of these for a couple of weeks of bedtimes, you can then rotate them or create your own. The format is the same each day –

Firstly to pray (short suggested prayers are included; I have deliberately kept them generic and have tried to avoid emotive topics as the purpose is winding down before bed, please adapt as you see fit).

Then listen to a song (linked).

Followed by being read the blessing in the image (- different each day)

I’ve tried to aim at primary school age children and have linked to a variety of different style of songs across the 2 weeks.  Feel free to use them as is appropriate for your family."   You can find the Blessings here.
